Post Research Paper

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this research paper. I was glad that for once I could choose any topic that I was interested in. I really feel like it made a positive difference in my paper because I was so passionate about my topic. In my paper I examined the psychological effects that social media has on adolescents. I got the idea because I have younger sisters and just from them I have seen how they are effected by social media. My goal for the assignment was to learn more about why social media impacted mental health and to raise awareness for adolescents and parents who do not realize the detrimental effects. I already assumed that social media had a negative impact on mental health, but I was still astonished when I read the research. I don't think anyone truly knows or understands just how damaging overuse of social media can be. One of the most sobering things for me to find was the #Proana campaign. It is a hashtag where anorexic people post tips, tricks, and motivation on ho...

Research Paper Brainstorm

I am studying the psychological effect of excessive use of social media because I want to find out if the amount of social media use causes or increases psychological disorders, such as eating disorders and depression. I am studying this in order to help my readers understand the detrimental impact that over use of social media can cause in their own lives and the lives of others. My audience is adolescents who use social media. They love social media and do not understand why they should modify their use of it. My audience values feeling accepted, understood, and noticed. This is a big reason why they use social media because they want to receive validation of their life and stay connected with what is happening in other people's lives. My audience fears rejection and feeling unpopular. They believe that social media helps them stay connected with their peers. They find it almost vital socially for them to keep up with everyone. They also feel like when they post they receive pos...

A Desert Place Apart

With a quiver in his voice and dewy eyes, Elder Eyring announced the death of a dear friend and collegue Robert D. Hales. The conference center fell silent. I watched from afar as all the apostles sat in their chairs. Some were fiddling with their hands, others leaning back with eyes closed, and some squeezing the arms of the chairs. "What are they thinking?" I wondered. I could only imagine how pained they felt and how desperately they wanted to be alone and mourn the passing of a dear friend. But there they sat, about to deliver another session of conference to the world. I couldn't help but draw my mind to a similar experience the Savior had during his mortal ministry. When Jesus's close friend John the Baptist was unjustly beheaded, it was a devastating day for the Savior. After hearing the news, "he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart".  Reading this, one gets a glimpse of the heart wrenching sorrow that Christ experienced during t...
